A Reason. A Season. A Lifetime.

Serendipity – a noun meaning a faculty or an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.

Have you ever noticed how people come into your life just when you need them? Could that have been an accident, you wonder?

It took me a long time to accept the notion that people do, indeed, seem to show up in your life – usually to help and support you or to teach you a lesson you needed to learn.

A few years ago I stumbled upon a poem on the Internet. If you are familiar with it there is no need to go further, but if you are not and think there may be some “magic” going on in your life, you may want to read on.

                  A Reason. A Season. A Lifetime

When someone is in your life for a reason, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They are there to meet a need. Then without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, they will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that the need has been met.

When a person comes into your life for a season, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.

Lifetime relationships teach you life lessons. Those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. You must accept the lesson, love the person anyway, and put what you have learned to use in all relationships and areas in your life.

What do you think? Is there such a thing as a coincidence? Is serendipity simply a lot of psycho babble? Like so many things in life, it is for you to decide.
