It Could Be A Wonderful World

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

wonderful-world-drew-simmieOne of my favourite radio programs is the popular CBC Sunday Edition. I have been a regular listener for years. Breakfast on Sunday just wouldn’t be the same without it. The variety and scope of the topics never disappoints.

So it was yesterday, when Michael Enright, the host of the show responded to a letter from Anne Blakeney, wife of the late premier of Saskatchewan. She asked if they could dig through the archives and play a recording of It Could Be A wonderful World, a song made popular by Pete Seeger, way back in the 50‘s and 60‘s.

There is at least one generation who has never heard of Pete Seeger. It was a long time ago. He and others of his time wrote and sang of love, caring for others, inclusiveness, respect and sharing.

Today, not so much. At a time of the 1%, of widening disparities in income and social unrest in many parts of the world, it is good to be reminded that we are, indeed, all the same, some just more fortunate than others.

Go back in time. Take a moment and listen

Just saying…
