It’s Not About You

In these words, I can sum up everything that I have learned about life: It goes on. Robert Frost

Living at the speed we live today, faces glued to our mobile devices, subject to an unending stream of distractions, working, it seems, 24/7, it is all too easy to forget how fleeting time is – and what and who in our lives are really important.

The days quickly turn into weeks, weeks into months and before we know it another year has gone by. The pace is crazy. The stress and strain is relentless.

Here are five actions you can take to help you keep things in perspective:

1.  Share joy, not negativity.

2. Pay close attention to the effects of the media that you consume.

3. Choose your friends with care. If you strive to be spiritually strong, supportive and positive, seek out those who exhibit similar attitudes.

4. Leave your cell phone at the front door when you get home. At the very least set a limit on the time you will devote to your phone. And stick to it.

5. Make a list of all the things and people in your life you are grateful for. Read it every month.

You can get so focused on the “big” stuff that you often overlook the small things and the events – especially when to comes to family and friends – occasions that can make such a difference in your life and theirs. In our increasingly narcissistic era, try and remember, it’s not about you.
