Hold Your Quiet Centre

Reason enlivens the mind; the ineffable enlivens the Heart. Martin Buber.

Recently I came across a poem that I thought was especially meaningful in today’s daunting world.

It’s all about resilience and courage.

Change is the new coinage.

The thing is this: How to deal with all the pressure and the craziness.

The challenge for each of us is how best to adapt to the new realities and fit into the future that’s coming up fast.

Here’s the poem.

A Center

You must hold your quiet centre, where you do what only you can do.

If others call you a maniac or a fool, just let them wag their tongues.

If some praise your perseverance, don’t feel too happy about it – only solitude is a lasting friend.

You must hold your distant centre.

Don’t move even if earth and heaven quake.

If others think you are insignificant, that’s because you haven’t held on long enough.

As long as you stay put year after year, eventually you will find a world beginning to revolve around you.

Written by Ha Jin. A Chinese-American poet and novelist.

Hmmm….

A FEW THOUGHTFUL QUESTIONS:

Have you recently found yourself wondering if, perhaps, there is more you could be doing? Something more fulfilling and engaging? Or closer to the point, something that more reflects who YOU have grown into over the years?

Need encouragement and someone with whom you could do some strategic exploring, to refresh your spirit and meet the many challenges of today’s new world? To help you move on to the next phase of your life?

You’re at the right place. If you are really ready, read my approach to coaching. For A COMPLIMENTARY, CONFIDENTIAL CONVERSATION text/call me at 416.450.8867 or email drew@drewsimmie.com. Follow me on LinkedIn.
