The 80/20 Shipping Rule

In times of great change there are those who always rise to the challenge and make a success out of whatever they’re doing. Intuitively they know what they have to do. They are deaf to the naysayers. They are not afraid to swim against the current. They know yesterday’s ideas are so yesterday and that the future is reliant on what they do today.

They work with what they have at hand. They do what they can.

In today’s market place, you can’t wait around for the right conditions to present themselves before you start. When you are working in an open mode rather than a closed one, one thing will lead to the next. The information you’re seeking may be available only after you’ve taken action. Wisdom often comes from experience, not from analysis.

If you have been holding back, resolve today – right now – to put aside your doubts and just do it. Have Courage. Keep believing in yourself. See yourself in a bigger light.

80% of something shipped out the door is better than 100% of something that never got shipped.

Dance in the Rain

drew_simmie_stormIt is hard to escape the daily onslaught of bad news – whether you’re hearing it the radio, reading a tablet or watching the latest disaster unfold online.

The constant drum beat of the media, the never ending litany of fear, uncertainty and negativity seems relentless.

The naysayers and doubters would have us believe we’re doomed. It’s only a matter of time they say… (who is they, anyway?)

It’s all too easy to think, why bother? Don’t let them get to you. As ominous as the sky may look, it is not falling in. There are many people just like you, doing good things, moving ahead, making a difference.

Life isn’t about waiting for the sun to come out but rather learning how to dance in the rain.

Building a Thriving Relationship

drew-simmie-developing-rootsBuilding a thriving relationship of any kind takes effort, respect and mutual trust.

Without the latter, it will never get off the ground. It you are selfish, filled with wariness and skepticism, the other party will never rise your expectations.

It takes an open heart and an open mind. Sure, there will be occasions when people will disappoint you, but if you start off only going for win-lose instead of win-win, you will poison the interaction before it even has a chance to take root.

Life is Not A Race

drew-simmie-watch-the-rain

In our instant on, 24/7, totally wired world, life has a way of slipping away so quickly. There is hardly time to think let alone read. Really?
Got a minute to read David Weatherford’s poem. You’ll get it…

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask: How are you? Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

Ever told your child, we’ll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die?
Cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurray through your day,
it is like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life is not a race, do take it slower.
Hear the music before the song is over.

Cross The Bridge

“No work  or love will flourish out of guilt, fear, or hollowness of heart, just as no valid plans for the future can be made by those who have no capacity  for living  now.” Alan Watts.

Action is the juice of life. It is the bridge between dreams and reality.

It doesn’t matter what it is… whether it is wanting to start your own business, leaving a job that is eating away at your soul, deciding to strike out in a totally new direction, leaving an empty, loveless relationship – as much as you want to say YES!, there will be times when fear will raise its ugly head, holding you back.

The key to getting by it lies in screwing up your courage, trusting in yourself and in the greater Universe.

When you have done all the soul searching and the thinking, if you feel in your heart of hearts that this is what you are being guided to do, there comes a point where there is nothing more to do than take the first step and cross the bridge… living now.
