Time To Move On?

Never for the sake of peace and quiet deny your own experience or your own convictions. Dag Hammarskjold.

Have you ever found yourself sitting quietly at 35,000 feet, on your way to a business meeting or perhaps coming back from a holiday, your mind wandering, quietly looking out the window, thinking, “Do I have this picture right? Could someone have switched the script when I wasn’t watching?

Could it be that you have outgrown your present situation? Could a change be in the works?

So, here you are. Doing all the right things, playing by the rules, but there is a void in your life… a feeling that something is missing. It’s kind of like getting up from the table after a delicious meal, but still feeling hungry.

Sound familiar? Relax, it isn’t only you. You are not the first person to ask these or similar questions.

It’s just that now it’s your turn.

You are not who you were when you started out. None of us are. Subject to the shifting currents, as we make our way through life, living our personal destinies, we pass through a number of phases, like taking off an old coat and putting on a new one.

Change isn’t without risk, it’s true, and it’s not for everyone, but it’s equally true that being willing to put down your old stories doesn’t always mean giving up the “good life” and all that for which you have worked so hard. Nor does it mean you can’t be consistent with your entrepreneurial, money-making instincts and skills.

What is has everything to do with is your attitude, your willingness to believe in yourself and in your innate, unique talents.

Letting go of the familiar isn’t for everyone, but if you feel in your gut that you have plateaued and think that there is brighter, more exciting future beckoning, there isn’t a better time than today.

There will be some scary moments, that’s for sure, but you’ll handle them.

Our world is changing, bringing with it new opportunities and broader horizons open to those willing to seek them out.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you.

Yes, You Can…!

It is not light that we need, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but the thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake. Frederick Douglas.

There will always be a surplus of people, eager to find fault, to criticize and urge caution, but your job right now is to reinforce the power of yes and put your work out there anyway.

Yes, you are capable of making a difference.

Yes, it’s important.

Yes, you can ignore the cynics and naysayers.

Yes, people believe in you.

Yes, this is an opportunity and a responsibility.

It’s not easy, but nothing of any value comes without commitment, application and hard work.

But, hey, nobody ever promised easy.

Note: With the posting of this article,  I will be travelling for three weeks, taking a brief sabbatical to rest, empty my mind and refresh my spirit. I will be back here May 15 with some exciting news about a new book I am writing and, more importantly, why. I look forward to continuing our relationship when I return. See you then.

Keep up your good work.

With An Eye To The Future

The future is called ‘perhaps,’ which is the only possible thing to call the future. And the important thing is not to allow that to scare you. Tennessee Williams.

The other thing to remember is that your future, in large part, has a lot to do with what you are doing today.

So here’s the question:

Is what you are doing today moving you towards or away from how you see the future?

Attitude

“There is no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love; there is only a scarcity of resolve to make it happen.” Wayne Dyer.

The road of life is long. The challenges are many. There are invariably occasions that can try your soul, particularly if you are doing something you have never done before.

It’s at those times when your character kicks in and helps you through.

Of all the keys that are available to you, few are as critical as personal resolve.

Oh, and did I say attitude?

Attitude is more important than education, than what people say or think, what you’ve done in the past, or appearances, or money. It’s everything.

Meaning

Life is without meaning. You bring meaning to it. The meaning of life is what you ascribe it to be. Joseph Campbell.

Of the many prerequisites needed to live a long, full and contented life, one of the most important is the need for purpose or meaning.

Meaning is what gets you out of bed in the morning. It’s what fuels the energy that drives you ever forward.

As you move through the years, age is only a number. It keeps you vital, interesting and interested.

And as you grow older, meaning keeps you young, with an eye not on the rear-view mirror, but always fixed on today and the future… where the living is.
