A New Decade. Fresh Adventures!

Cheers to a new year another chance to get it right. Oprah Winfrey.

Leave it to Oprah to find the right phrase!

There’s a new decade knocking on the door. In spite of the cynics and pessimists, there are good things going on all around us and amazing stuff in the works.

All over the globe, there are countless people, quietly doing their best everyday for themselves and others, refusing to give into exclusiveness, greed and selfishness that are so ubiquitous.

They make an active choice to stand up what for they believe in and continue to work towards a better world.

Not blindly, but rather with a hard-earned optimism, they embrace the new year and celebrate another chance to get it right.

In that vein, I wish you a happy New Year… and all the best the coming year.

With this post I am taking some time off and will see you back here on January 6, 2020…in a new decade that promises fresh adventures. Get ready!

The Future is Just Over the Horizon

If you want to know your past, look into your present conditions. If you want to know your future, look into your present actions. Chinese proverb.

We’re living in changing, trying times. For many, the future is looking iffy, even bleak. The naysayers and the doubters are ascending, but for the doers and the seekers, the sky is not falling in.

They know that, as it always has, the sun will come up tomorrow.

For the doers and the seekers, new opportunities abound. They are not distracted nor discouraged. They think their future will be better than the past. They have high energy levels. Their interests are constantly expanding. They are always open to others and receptive to new thoughts and ideas. And they are not afraid to make mistakes.

Sure the challenges are many and daunting. No one ever promised easy.

2020 beckons. There’s a new era just up ahead; filled with new ways of seeing and doing things, and looking at the world. Serious work needs to be done.

For the seekers and doers, the future is just over the horizon, there for the taking… and they are taking it!

Human Rights

On December 10, 1948, the United Nations General Assembly passed into law the International Human Rights Principles to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or groups.

In 1995, on the 50th anniversary of that occasion, Maya Angelou was invited to address the United Nations Assembly in New York. In front of the US president and heads of states from all the world, Maya Angelou passionately read her poem, A Brave and Startling Truth. It spoke volumes then as it does now. Travel back 24 years and listen….hmmm. We still have a long way to go.

In the words of the Persian poet, Rumi, life is a balance of letting go and holding on. If you  have been thinking about the general direction of your life and think more balance is in order, perhaps we could chat. Text/call me 416.450.8867 or email drew@drewsimmie.com. Follow me on Twitter.

No Middle Ground

A busy mind is full of thoughts. A blissful mind is full of ideas. Amit Kalanti.

If you are still competing with the crowd, trying to look like everyone else or trotting out old ideas that clearly aren’t working for you anymore, maybe it’s time to rethink your proposition.

Here are three critical questions to consider:

  • Who, specifically, are you trying to reach?
  • What story are you telling them?
  • What do you have to do to reach them?

We’re in an era where the winners are coming from the ranks of those willing to creatively step out in front of the crowd. Being busy doesn’t mean being productive.

To grow your enterprise or advance your career in today’s hard scrabble environment, you’ve got to be open to change, absolutely clear about who are and work smarter.

In today’s world, there’s no middle ground. You’re either moving ahead or falling behind.

In the words of the Persian poet, Rumi, life is a balance of letting go and holding on. If you  have been thinking about the direction of your life and could use some help managing change and thinking strategically, let’s chat. Text/call me 416.450.8867 or email drew@drewsimmie.com.
