Do The Work

You say I am a dreamer but I’m not the only one. John Lennon.

It’s hard these days to hold on to your dreams. At every turn negativity and pessimism rear their ugly heads. The world appears to be breaking into two groups. One is sure that we are all going to hell in a hand basket so don’t bother. The other says no, no no…..the future is bright if only we are open to the new opportunities and changes that must be made.

It was always thus. The believers, the small, creative minority has always been responsible for improving humankind’s lot, but it’s never been easy.

No great work or extraordinary accomplishment in any field of endeavour has ever come without unending commitment and courage.

In order to have, you must ‘do’ and in order to ‘do’ you must ‘be.’

And there’s no getting around it.

You have to do the work. Everyday.

Business Is Also Artistry

drew-simmie-picasso-peace_smEvery child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.
Pablo Picasso.

Artistry isn’t confined to the fine arts. There is artistry in business too.

There is art in the creation of your brand, artistry in the creation and execution of your marketing strategy, particularly in these challenging times.

There is artistry in timing. Too early is as bad as too late. Timing, as they say, is everything.

So go ahead. Don’t think small.

Tell Picasso to move over.

Paint a bigger picture of yourself – and your business.

Each New Tomorrow

No one day is like another, each tomorrow has its special miracle, its magic moment in which old universes are destroyed and new starts created. Paulo Coelho.

Living at the speed we do today, it’s all too easy to miss life’s special moments.

The pace is frenetic, the stress and strain unrelenting. As you navigate life’s twists and turns, life can easily catch up to you if you are not careful. We’re so focused on the big stuff that we can often overlook the seemingly little things and significant moments that can make such a difference to our lives and those around us who really matter.

Crazy times. And it doesn’t look like they are going away any time soon. We’re all so busy… just trying to keep up, “staying alive”, as the expression goes.

Sound familiar?

So, how can you reduce the pressure on your everyday activities and make more time to make each new tomorrow more meaningful?

For starters, here are five suggestions:

  1. Adopt an attitude of gratitude. Notice and give thanks for what you have rather than bemoan what you haven’t.
  2. Share hope, not negativity and cynicism.
  3. Spend judiciously. Whether it is a shiny new thing or a slick new service, pause before buying and ask yourself, “Do I really need this or would I simply like it?”
  4. Pay attention to the time on social media you are spending. It will eat up hours of your day if you let it.
  5. Choose your friends with care. If you strive to be spiritually strong, supportive and positive, seek those characteristics in others and help them develop those traits by living them yourself.

Of course, there are demands on your time and obligations that must be met but there is only so much of you to go around. Give yourself a break. You’re the only one who will.

Life is too precious and time is too short to fritter away even one day.

Make every one count and welcome each new tomorrow.

Just Say Yes

It’s not the light that we need, but fire; it’s not the gentle shower, but the thunder. We need the storm. Frederick Douglas.

the-power-of-yes-drew-simmie

There is power in words. One of the most powerful is YES!

Yes. It’s OK to put your work out into the world.

Yes. You are capable of doing good work and making a difference.

Yes. What you are doing is important.

The future beckons…

At this moment in history there is no shortage of people eager to deny the truth, to exclude, to criticize, turn a blind eye, close off their hearts and say NO.

The ‘Yes’ crowd has always been in the minority but today, more than ever, there has never been a greater need for people to do the right things rather than doing things right: People to step up to the plate and say YES!

Play The Game

The here and now is all we have and if we play it right, it’s all we need. Ann Richards.

appreciate-the-moment-drew-simmie

In the game of life, the most important moment is the present moment.

Many of us live out our lives with one eye on the past, a past that’s already gone – and the other on the future, that’s not here yet. Choosing to live in the past or in the future steals your todays and robs you of living to the fullest.

Live forward. Never Look back.

Nobody knows how things will turn out. Give each day your best shot. When you have gone as far as you can go, you’ll know what to do next.

It’s not whether you win or lose, it is how you play the game.
