Ending Chapters

One always has to know when a stage comes to an end.

ending-chapters-drew-simmie

If we insist on staying longer than the necessary time, we can become dispirited, uninteresting and lose the happiness and meaning of the other stages we have to go through.

Shutting doors behind us, closing cycles, ending chapters –  whatever it is, whatever name we give it, what matters is to leave in the past the moments of life that have finished, whatever they are.

Things pass and the best we can do is let them really go away. Sometimes it is hard, but you can’t write a new chapter until the old one is ended.

It’s Your Choice

We are our choices. Jean Paul Sarte.

daily-decisions-drew-simmie

Everyday we are all offered choices and make decisions, some larger than others, that will determine our destination.

One of the most important is to not give in to the cynicism and negativity to which we are constantly subjected.

Another choice, of equal weight, is to decide how we view life. Either we are all going to hell in hand basket, so nothing matters anyway, or life is a blessing, a once-in-a-lifetime trip, albeit with some bumps along the road.

The choices we make, make us, but here’s the thing.

The choice is yours…

Living In The Present Moment

If you miss the present moment, you miss your appointment with life. Thich Nhat Hanh.

present-moment-drew-simmie

Have you never caught yourself saying, “I can’t believe how fast time is going,” or thought, “there will time to do this or that later.”

I know I have. Just recently I was reminded again of how precious time and life are. I was way too far out on the limb, spread too thin, as the expression goes.

The demands on our lives at work and at home never seem to stop. Especially today in our stressful, 24/7 world. Everybody seems to want a piece of us and our time, but there is only so much of it to go around. Fact is, there are only 24 hours in the day, 168 in the week.

Faster and faster can easily catch up to you. It can ruin relationships, cut down on efficiency at work and suck the joy out of life.

All is not lost, though… not if you don’t want it to be and are willing to wrestle your todo list to the ground. Here are three steps to get started:

  1. Be honest. Get your priorities sorted out. Really.
  2. Learn to say “no.” If someone asks you for your time, check your calendar before you commit. Arrange a time that works for both parties.
  3. Stop being a slave to the Internet and social media.

You can add your own favourites to the list…

Life flies by all too quickly. You owe it to yourself and those in your life who matter to constantly keep wrestling down your todo list and living in the present moment.

Working In The Middle Space

Today’s marketplace isn’t easy. It’s interconnected, interdependent and global. It is a marketplace of infinite choices, environmentally sensitive, driven by technology and media dominated. It is a tough field.

middle-space-drew-simmie

It has created a new business model that demands that you work in a new space – reliant not solely on your linear, left brain side nor with an over emphasis on the creative, right brain side, but in using both, unafraid to listen to your intuition, then taking that information and filtering it through your rational mind to a new space, between the two spheres.

This is where you are at your best – following your hunches then using your smarts and and experience to bring your work to successful fruition. It is there where the practical and meaningful solutions for today’s today’s new market reside.

It is always a juggling act, but here are three tips to get you there:

  1. Have the courage to think outside of the proverbial box. That’s where the status quo isn’t.
  2. Build on a bigger future, even though you can’t always see it.
  3. Stick to your convictions – and do your best work.

When you do, wonderful things can happen. Life sparkles when you are open to new possibilities – working in the middle space, between the two spheres.
