Magical Times

In these words, I can sum up everything that I have learned about life: It goes on. Robert Frost.

Living at the speed we live today, faces glued to our mobile devices, subject to an unending stream of distractions, working, it seems, 24/7, it is all too easy to forget how fleeting time is – and what and who in our lives are really important.

The days quickly turn into weeks, weeks into months and before we know it another year has gone by. The pace is crazy. The stress and strain is relentless.

Here are five actions you can take to help you keep things in perspective:

1.  Share joy, not negativity.

2. Pay close attention to the effects of the media that you consume.

3. Choose your friends with care. If you strive to be spiritually strong, supportive and positive, seek out those who exhibit similar attitudes.

4. Leave your cell phone at the front door when you get home.

5. Adopt an attitude of gratitude.

You can get so focused on the “big” stuff that you often overlook the small things and the events – especially when to comes to family and friends – occasions that can make such a difference in your life and theirs – and turn seemingly ordinary times into magical times.

Seven Marketing Challenges

Whatever your project…

1. Know EXACTLY who your market is.

2. Know HOW you are going to reach them.

3. What STORY are you telling?

4. Are they open to HEARING it or simply not interested?

5. What FEAR might be holding them back from saying yes?

6. WHEN do you expect them to buy into your offering?

7. What will they TELL their friends about it?

An Unexpected Gift

handwritten_note

Last week, I received a hand written note from a client who had to unexpectedly cancel a meeting at which, along with a colleague, I was scheduled to speak.

When I opened up the envelope, to my delight, along with a few words of apology I found a Starbucks gift card. Hand written. Snail mail, too!

A gift of any description, given unexpectedly, to me at least, is even more appreciated than when it is given out of duty or because it is expected. It shows special consideration and thoughtfulness.

It doesn’t need to cost a lot of money, either. It’s the gesture that counts.

Three Myths About Creativity

Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better. Martin Luther King Jr.

raffael_great_idea

New ideas are today’s coinage. Whether you are working for yourself or on contract to an organization, they are the life blood of growth. And they are directly related to creativity

Ah, you may think, but I’m not creative. Think again. Consider these three common myths about creativity:

  1. I am not creative. Not true… we are all creative. Some are just more creative than others. We all have creative ideas. It is just that over time, from the moment we started out as children and grew into adulthood, we have learned to censor our ideas, fearful of being scorned or ridiculed.
  2. Creative people always have good ideas. No they don’t… creative people always have ideas. Some are good, others not so much. Many are good but not practical.
  3. Constructive criticism will help you improve on an idea. No it won’t. Ideas need to be encouraged and nurtured.

Can you imagine where we would be without them?

If you’ve been sitting on a great idea, hesitating to unpack it, don’t let the naysayers and doubters dissuade you.

You’ll never know if you don’t try. Who knows where it may take you…

Why Are You Doing It?

  • Is it making a difference?
  • Is it moving you toward or away from your goals?
  • Is it sustainable?
  • Is it important in the greater scheme of things?
  • Is it about doing things right or doing the right thing?
  • Is it keeping you connected with those you love or keeping you apart?
  • Is it a distraction that is keeping you from what you know you should do?
  • Is it something that makes you feel good about yourself?
  • Is it leveraging your work or wasting it?
