Keep On Keeping On

The roller coaster is my life; life is a fast dizzying game, life is a parachute jump; it’s taking chances, falling over and getting up again; it’s mountaineering; it’s wanting to get to the very top of yourself and to feel angry and dissatisfied when you don’t manage it. Paulo Coelho.

Life, indeed, is a roller coaster. It is determined, in large measure, by the choices you make and – more importantly, why.

What is the dream? What do you hope for? What is your world view?

Are you adding value to the lives of others while, at the same time doing what you love?

Life has its high and low points, its good and tough times, but it can be the way you want to live it – if you don’t lose sight of the vision, if you don’t let fear, pride and false judgement keep you from taking action; if you do the work; if you don’t give up and just keep on keeping on.

Celebrate Today

sunrise-drew-simmie

“What day is it,?” asked Pooh.

It’s today.” squeaked Piglet.

“My favourite day.” said Pooh.

What is there in your  life that you are celebrating today?

The Energy Within

Belief is a truth held in the heart. Faith is a fire held in the heart. Joseph Newton.

ignite-spirit-within-drew-simmmie

In this journey we call life, being aware of who we are and what we‘re really all about – living on purpose, if you will, is what can set us on fire, if only we will pay attention.

More often than not, so obsessed with taking action, doing instead of being, so focused on things rather than on people, we often are unaware of the energy we are radiating – much of it negative in nature.

This can create a toxic cocktail of uncertainty, doubt and mistrust. Many of us are plagued with constant worries and fear. We have a tendency to lower our expectations in a what-if scenario, instead of expecting the best. Often, as a result, relationships in personal and in our professional lives are often strained and tenuous, things can go wrong and abundance eludes us.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Not if you don’t want it to be. External circumstances do not determine your emotional state and energy. You do. Your life is not meant to always be filled struggle, hardship and heaviness. Rather it was meant to be filled with joy, light and ease. Is it?

What is your dominant perspective?

Are you an optimist or a pessimist? What expectations and beliefs do you hold?

Are they big or small? Do they indicate faith and trust or fear and doubt?

How you see your life is your decision to make. This freedom is yours to choose and is always available to you, even when it feels impossible to find a new perspective, one that radiates positive rather than negative energy.

But here’s the thing. In the end, it’s up to you. The energy can only come from within.

Using Time Wisely

Time is nature’s way of keeping everything at once. Woody Allen.

Leave it to Woody to put a funny spin on a serious subject. How many times have you caught yourself saying, “I can’t believe how fast time is going.” In this crazy busy era, for many of us, time does seem to be in short supply.

Of all our possessions, along with good health, time is the most precious. The demands of work and your personal lives are ceaseless. Everyone wants some of your time so you need to do all you can to protect and make the best use of it.

The secret of managing time is managing yourself.

There are only 168 hours in the week. How wisely are you using them? Are there ways you could put them to better use? Here are just three:

  1. Learn to say “no.” It’s difficult, but not impossible. If someone asks you for your time, check your calendar before you commit… and try to work out a time that is better for you, or at least, time shared equally. If they can’t wait, immediately decline. Usually another time can be arranged. Could you text, email or phone instead? At another designated hour?
  2.  Don’t be a slave to the Internet and Social Media. Easier said than done, I know, but give it shot. Designate certain times of the day or evening when the phones are put away.
  3.  Review and constantly update your todo list. Keep asking yourself, “Is what I have scheduled to do moving me away from or towards my objectives(s)? If the answer is no, cancel or reschedule it at a less pressing time.

Time, noted Carl Sandberg, is the coin of your life… be careful lest you let others spend it for you.

Protect your time. Use it wisely because when it’s gone, it’s gone.
