Online Book Launch… You’re Invited.

For a number of years now, I have devoted the major part of my time to coaching, teaching, speaking and writing about being authentic and doing work that makes a difference.

All of this has resulted in the recent publication of an updated, second edition of Life Without A Parachute, a further reflection on what I have experienced since writing the first edition four years ago.

In keeping with the times, it is an e-book published on Amazon. I invite you read the first chapter.

The book speaks to the need of many who are intent on getting past their fear and doubts and want to move on to new challenges, continuing to put it out there, add to the conversation and do work that truly engages both their head and their heart.

I wrote it to help me sort out what is meaningful in my life and to encourage you to keep on learning – to live with purpose, compassion and joy.

There are plans afoot, too, for a new person-to-person workshop as well as a digital venue. My hope is that people won’t be able to resist purchasing a copy and passing along the word once they have read it.

If you’re stuck in your comfort zone and not satisfied with the status quo, my wish for you is that in this book you may find the answers you are looking for and understand your life with a level of clarity you didn’t have before.

I look forward to your comments.

D.

When Real Communication Begins

What is important is that one use one’s intellect and not be 100% sure about one’s convictions. Shirin Ebadi.

There are few needs of the human heart that are greater than the need to be heard, to be understood and respected for whom we are; to have someone actually hear what we are saying.

Often, though, in our state of busyness and the desire to win, many engage in a conversation without actually hearing what the other person saying.

Have you ever found yourself in an encounter when you are already preparing a response to the point the other person is trying to express even before they have finished speaking? I know I have.

You are nodding, smiling, but not really hearing. You are in too much of a hurry, too invested in your own point of view to even hear their’s.

It is only when you actually slow down and the other person realizes that you are listening, sincerely paying attention to what they have to say – that real communication begins.

The Three Big E’s

For every minute you remain angry, you give up 60 seconds of peace. Ralph Waldo Emerson.

I don’t know what it is but the number of positive thinking, happy people I meet on a daily basis I can usually count on one hand. So many seem to spend their day finding fault and focused on the negative.

So when I happen across an exception I always make a point to tell her or him how refreshing they are. I ran across an example yesterday when I approached the concierge at condominium residence in downtown Toronto.

I commented on how pleasant he was as he replied to my inquiry.

“It’s simple,” he said. “I live each day according to what I call the three big E’s.”

“Let me guess, I said, Energy….”

With a smile, he finished the sentence for me. “Empathy and Enthusiasm.”

Energy, empathy and enthusiasm. Can you imagine what our days would look like if everyone subscribed to this simple philosophy?

Try it. It’s infectious. I’ll bet you’re smiling… even now, as you read this

Seizing the Opportunity

All of life is change. It can be a positive or a negative – depending upon how you deal with it.

If you look upon the positive, you’ll find an opportunity, but if you only see the negative you won’t even know what you missed.

Seeing an opportunity, seizing the moment can be risky, but risk is something none of us can avoid – not if you want to live life to the fullest.
