Savour the Special Moments.

father_daughter

In these words I can sum up everything that I have learned about life: It goes on. Robert Frost.

Living at the speed we live today, it is all too easy to forget that time is so precious and that we need to constantly strive to make as much room as we can for the people we love and care about.

You can get so focused on the big stuff that you often overlook the small things and the events – especially when it comes to family and friends – that can make such a difference in your life and theirs and can turn seemingly ordinary moments into something special.

Things and events can and do blind us to life’s special moments… those special ‘magic’ moments that remind us of the human connections in our lives that are so important.

PUT THE PHONE DOWN. Be more compassionate. Share joy. Be kind, more patient. Listen more attentively. Choose your friends with care.

If you strive to be spiritually strong, supportive and positive, make it a rule to seek out those who exhibit similar attitudes.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about you. It’s about others, too.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.

As always thank you for reading me.

I hope to see you back here again soon.

Make Time An Ally.

The mind is everything. What you think you become. Buddha.

In our demanding, social-media driven world, just keeping up with our everyday lives can be a real challenge.

There is hardly a pause. Everyday, phone in hand , we’re tweeting, texting, chattering away…. like a flock of birds on a wire.

The pressure can be intense. It’s so easy to get caught up in the distractions and take our eye off the ball.

Not to worry, though. If you think you have been inflicted, happily there is a cure.

It is called FOCUS.

Whatever your business or life objectives, each morning, pause for a moment and ask yourself this one, all important question:

“Is what I’m doing with my time today moving me away from or towards the outcome I am looking for?”

If it is, keep going. If it isn’t, stop it. And re-FOCUS on what will.

Vow today to take meaningful, direct measures to move your life forward.

Make time your ally – not an enemy.

Hmm…

Stay safe. Stay interested. Stay interesting.

Thank you for reading me.

I hope to see you back here again soon.

Take a Different Route To Work.

If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten. Henry Ford.

try-a-new-route-habbit-drew-simmie

In the main, to a greater or lesser extent, much of what we are is the result of our past thoughts, experiences and subsequent actions.

Some are OK with that, but in today’s world, others not so much.

Sometimes we stay in situation, even if we don’t like it, just because it’s comfortable… you know, the proverbial comfort zone.

It is what is, we say to ourselves… until, for whatever reason, it isn’t.

And we experience a deep-seated hunger to do something more, something different.

The premise, of course, is that if you want to do something different, you’ll have to put something different into the mix.

And that requires stepping out of your comfort zone, upping your learning curve, taking a leap of faith and experimenting with risk.

Nothing happens magically. It requires courage, imagination, curiosity, unfailing self-belief, patience and, of course, a lot of work.

The times have changed. Really.

Taking a new direction means changing your perspective, looking at everything in a new and different way… starting with the decision to stop looking back, picturing a brighter future and then, moving into the passing lane… and taking a different route to work.

Hmm…

I hope to see you again soon.

It’s Up To You.

Believe you can and you’re halfway there. Theodore Rooseveldt

Finding the path to authenticity, the unique self that makes you you is the easiest and yet, at the same time, the hardest thing to do, especially in these challenging times.

Many, even those at the top of their game, sensing new opportunities, have been given pause to think about what is going on, to reflect upon how they are living and what they are doing with their lives.

“Have I got it all right” they wonder?

It all comes down to your attitude. And staying positive.

Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.

Keep your words positive because your words become your behaviour.

Keep your behaviour positive because your behaviour becomes your habits.

Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.

Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.

Mahatma Gandhi.

Be Brave Enough To Listen.

connections-drew-simmie

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen. Winston Churchill.

Like a pair of giant needles, technology and globalization have knitted us together. Whether we live in Toronto, Toledo or Timbuktu, our world has become a global village, increasingly interdependent, interconnected, demanding we broaden our world view, like it or not.

Broadly speaking, a world view is a set of expectations and biases we have formed that shape how we see and feel about people in other nations, even in our own neighbourhoods – each of them with their own world view.

Accommodation isn’t always easy but as distances continue to shrink, it is good to remember that, regardless of where we stand on the globe, most people are just trying to get through the day, striving to live out their personal destinies and be the best they can be.

We are not the same, of course. Our cultures, religions and societal differences can make strangers of us all – but only if we let them.

The songs we sing, the stories we tell, sounds and words that to others may sound foreign, even threatening.

Still, particularly at this time, as the world continues to get smaller, meaner and less inclusive, more than ever, we need to look into our hearts and make a greater effort to narrow the gap.

And to be reminded that a stranger is only a person whose song or story we have never heard, if only we are brave enough to listen.

Hmm… over to you.

Stay safe. Stay interest. Stay interesting.

I hope to see you again soon.
