Live in the Present Moment

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside awakes. Carl Jung.

One of the most important things the Covid-19 has tsunami taught us, if nothing else, is how precious our time is. The past is behind us. It is made up of the stories and events other people have learned and experienced. Not yours. And the future hasn’t happened yet, so don’t spend your time worrying about it. It will be what it will be.

There is only the present. That’s where the action lies.

Living in the present moment is an attitude. It is all about being mindful, something you can learn. Mindfulness, learning to live in the present takes courage, time, discipline and self-esteem.

It’s a process that takes longer to do than simply reading this. There are courses you can take, books you can read and groups you can join. But for starters, here are five things you can do now.

  1. Wrestle your to do list to the ground. Be ruthlessly honest. Remember, there are only 168 hours in a week and after you subtract time for eating, sleeping and doing all the daily required tasks, there really aren’t that many hours left. Do what’s important first.
  2. Learn to say say “no.” If someone asks for your a piece of your time, check your calendar before you commit. Arrange a mutually convenient time to get together. Mutually is the operative word.
  3. Stop being a slave to the Internet and social media. It can be a terrible time waster.
  4. In your person-to-person relationships, increase your awareness of how you interact and respond to others. Practice being aware. Be attentive. Listen. Develop more patience.
  5. Concentrate more on today and not so much on the future. If you are doing the right things today, the future will look after itself.

The here and now is all you have, but if you play your cards right, it’s all you really need!

Be clear. Do right.

We must use the time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right. Martin Luther King Jr.

If ever there was a time to be clear about your life and what you’re doing, the time is now. Covid-19 has seen to that. And it’s just getting started. There is no time for equivocation. Living isn’t easy….. it takes courage, hope for the future and unending faith in yourself.

  1. Be clear about what you want.
  2. Be clear about why you want to do it.
  3. Be clear about who you are.
  4. Be clear about what’s making you hesitate.
  5. Be clear about the value you bring.

It is, indeed, time to do right.

Say Hello To The Future

It always seems impossible until it’s done. Nelson Mandela.

As the world begins to reopen and we all start to think about how to grapple with the new reality, the over-arching question is, “where do you go from here?

It isn’t going to be easy. In this time of global economic, social and political upheaval, all options are on the table.

So how do you get on to what next in these unconventional times?

Where do you start?

Start at the beginning. By taking responsibility for yourself. Have a quiet talk with yourself. Establish what you really value and what you know, in your heart of hearts, you’re all about. And whom you want to serve.

Establishing the right intentions can help you stay optimistic and positive.

You get to decide how you live your life. The freedom is yours to choose and even when it feels impossible, remember it’s not. For those who want it bad enough, the future’s right up ahead and it’s going to be amazing!

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.

Keep Growing.

Covid-19. Week 15. The lockdown is beginning to ease off a little…

We can’t control exterior circumstances but we can select our choices. Victor Frankel.

There’s no doubt that we’re in a time of reckoning. Change is in the air.

Navigating the world in these troubled times isn’t for the faint of heart. As humanity undergoes major changes at every level, we are each being pushed to move beyond outdated beliefs and behaviours that aren’t applicable anymore and search for new ways of thinking and acting in a collective world, turned upside down by the Coronavirus.

The trick is to be open to change, to constantly be on the lookout for new opportunities that didn’t exist before: To keep asking “What if?”.  As in, “What if I did this or if I tried that?”

It takes character, courage, commitment and hope. So what else is knew?!

The world is putting us all on notice. Each of us have a choice. We can revert to old, bad habits and outdated views that are no longer valid, or we can use this time to pause, rethink what we’re all about and then, once more, keep growing.

Dare To Be You!

Covid-19.  Week 14 of self-isolation

Do stuff. Be clenched, curious, not waiting for inspiration’s show or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It’s all about paying attention. Attention is vitality. It connects with you others. It makes you eager. Stay eager. Susan Sontag.

As we stare into what is going to be a different kind of world than that we thought it was going to be just a few short fourteen weeks ago, it is becoming increasingly clear that succeeding in the post Covid-19 era is going to be challenging.

It’s a cliche, of course, to say that, but it’s true.

But here’s the thing. However it plays out, it is going to be up to you.

As you look around at your world, resolve to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Whatever you do, do it with determination and love. You have one life to live. Be honest. Do your work with passion, everyday. When you do, everything else will fall nicely into place.
