Show Up For Work Everyday

You say I am a dreamer but I’m not the only one. John Lennon.

It’s hard these days to hold on to your dreams. At every turn negativity and pessimism rear their ugly heads. The world appears to be breaking into two groups. One is sure that we are all going to hell in a hand basket so don’t bother. The other says no, no no…..the future is bright if only we’re open to the new opportunities and changes that beckon.

It was always thus. The believers, the small, creative minority has always been responsible for improving humankind’s lot, but it’s never been easy.

No great work or extraordinary accomplishment in any field of endeavour has ever come without the hard work and courage.

In order to have, you must ‘do’ and in order to ‘do’ you must ‘be.’

And you must show up for work everyday.

Choose a Different Approach

Boredom is the route of all evil – the despairing refusal to be oneself. Soren Kierkegaarde.

Doing the same thing, month after month, year after year inevitably leads to boredom. Sheer, mindless boredom. Guaranteed to produce ennui and squeeze the joy out of your life.

Are you bored? The only real cure for boredom is to throw yourself into some sort of activity that will totally engage both your your mind and your heart. When you do, you won’t see the time – and you’ll find happiness that you never thought you would. Easier said than done, I know, but there it is.

The way out of boredom begins with a change of some sort, something that many have a great deal of difficulty accepting. Change is something we all resist even when we know we shouldn’t. Why?

Change has a considerable impact on the human mind. To the fearful, it is threatening because it means things might get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things might get better. To the confidant it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make it better.

Which one of the three are you?

If you have been seriously contemplating taking a different approach but have been hesitating, here are some exercises to get you started in the practice of making changes… you will be amazed at how they can impact on your life!

  1. Take a different route to work – change your daily routine.
  2. Change your hair style – change your attitude.
  3. Listen to music you don’t usually listen to – change your mind set.
  4. Change your style of dress – change your appearance
  5. Invite a new couple for dinner – change the conversation.

Let me know how it went! And good luck!

It’s Your Call

Everywhere change is in the air. The challenges are many but so are the opportunities for those willing to take risks and put themselves out there.

If you’re seriously thinking about making a change – and are clear in your mind about what you want to do, here are three questions to ask yourself. There are many more, of course, but these will get you started:

  1. How well have you planned?
  2. What actions do you need to take to make the change?
  3. Are you willing to step outside your comfort zone and do the hard work required?

Seriously is the operative word here. Stepping outside your comfort zone takes courage, discipline and more faith in yourself than you ever imagined you had.

Listening to your heart, stepping up your game and slipping the bounds of convention will take time (longer than you thought) and it won’t be easy, but who ever promised you easy?

If it’s to be, it’s up to you.

It’s your call…

If You Want to Lead the Orchestra….

Belief is a truth held in the mind. Faith is a fire in the heart. Joseph Newton.

In our super-competitive environment, fiercely driven by the need for success (however you measure it) and personal equanimity, the pressure is enormous.  Staying with the status quo isn’t an option. You’re either moving forward or falling backward.

Keeping faith in yourself is a must.

Sometimes, if you want to lead the orchestra, you may even have to turn your back to the audience.

Want to step up your game? In transition? Could you use a life coach? Does your group need to be inspired? Like me to talk to them? For a complimentary consultation, text/call 416.450.8867 or email drew@drewsimmie.com. Follow me on Twitter.
