Writing a New Chapter

If you want to know your past, look into your present conditions. If you want to know your future, look into your present actions. Chinese proverb.

One always has to know when a stage comes to an end.

If we insist on staying longer than the necessary time, we can become dispirited, uninteresting  and lose the happiness and meaning of the other new stages that we have to go through on the journey of life.

Shutting doors behind us, closing cycles, ending chapters, it doesn’t matter what name we give it; what matters is to leave in the past those moments of life that have finished, whatever they are.

Circumstances change, things pass, people come and go out of our lives and the best we can do is let them really go away. Sometimes it’s hard, but until you are willing to let go of the old chapter, you can’t write a new one.

A heads up! Are you bogged down in the weeds, feeling a little boxed in and want to get out? My new workshop is for you. To learn more and to sign up today, click on BE REAL.

Choose Optimism

When I look at the world I’m pessimistic, but when I look at people I am optimistic. Carl Rogers.

So much of life is choices….. one of the most important (because it impacts on almost everything you do in life) is choosing whether to be a pessimist or an optimist.

Pessimists, by nature, are destructive, unsure of their abilities, closed to new ideas, critical of the opinions of others, disrespectful, fearful and comfortable with their view of the past.

Optimists, on the other hand, are helpful, open to ideas, sharing, inclusive, caring and  forward thinking and welcoming of the future. They are the explorers, the builders.

If it weren’t for optimists, we’d still be huddled around a campfire, terrified of the strange noises in the dark shadows beyond the light of flames.

Did you know? I have started a new, inspiring workshop BE REAL. It is created for people are always up for a challenge and who want to be inspired, restore their sense of self and purpose and live even larger lives.

Persistence

The closer you get to your dream, the more your Personal Legend becomes your real reason for living. Paulo Coelho.

In the pantheon of traits that supports successful people, at the top, along side courage, stands persistence.

Persistent people never give up. They know the journey can seem long and sometimes interminable. Always, though, failure is never an option. They:

  1. Have a highly developed sense of purpose.
  2. Are always hopeful.
  3. Take a long term view.
  4. Are not afraid to ask for help.
  5. Don’t get frightened by uncomfortable thoughts or by not always having the answer.
  6. Are selective in to whom they turn for guidance and inspiration.
  7. Find healthy ways to recharge and nurture themselves.

And they know the only way to save their dream is to be kind and generous to themselves.

Did you know? I have started a new, inspiring workshop BE REAL. It is created for people are always up for a challenge and who want to be inspired, restore their sense of self and purpose and live even larger lives.

Yes You Can

The world is divided into two classes, those who believe in the incredible and those who do the improbable. Oscar Wilde.

Life isn’t always sunshine and roses. Sometimes it is bloody tough.

When it’s the latter and your courage is a little thin, don’t give up.

If it’s a big problem, break it down into smaller, manageable bits.

Then take it one day a time, step by step.

Remember, life is a marathon, not a sprint.

Connect with people who prioritize growth and focus on living larger lives.

Keep believing in yourself. Your courage will see through.

Did you know? I have started a new motivational workshop BE REAL. It is created for achievers who want to be inspired, restore their sense of self and purpose and live even larger lives.

Lead Yourself. Be Real.

The purpose of life, after all, is to love it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear, for newer and richer experience. Eleanor Roosevelt.

The other day, someone asked me, “What is leadership all about, what’s the secret to it,” they wondered?

I have been writing and thinking and talking about leadership for a long time. I’m not alone. Writers, consultants and coaches, of all stripes, have writing and selling books, holding workshops and speaking about it as if it were some kind of arcane, mysterious secret; always with the objective of getting people to step fully into their lives and share their special gifts with the greater community.

Truth be known, though, there is no secret.

Leadership comes from within.

Each and every day, leaders screw up their courage, go out the door and deliver their service or product to the world. They take action, continually analyzing what went well or not so well.

They reflect upon what happened and then, learning from the experience, make the necessary corrections, do what they instinctively know they need to do, all the while constantly reaching out to meet their aspirations or goals.

They all have a common attribute. A purpose.

It’s as simple and complicated as that.

They know why they are getting up every morning. That knowledge is the fuel that feeds the flame and keeps hope alive.

Armed with a rock solid purpose, their eye ever on the prize, they are always hopeful.

Sure they make mistakes, stumble occasionally and at times are scared to death, but they go out and do it anyway, come hell or high water: Heart and mind totally engaged.

If you’ve been holding back, secretly harbouring a dream, give yourself permission to live it. Now, while you can. Take the first step. Vow, today, that enough is enough.

Work with what you have rather than waiting for what you feel you feel you are lacking. Just get going. Nothing builds self confidence and fosters self esteem like personal accomplishment.

Decide to BE REAL. To be honest with yourself.

And do what you love. Go as far as you can. When you get there, you’ll know what to do next.

That said….. exciting news. I am starting a new motivational workshop BE REAL. If what you have just read is resonating and you are seriously thinking about making some changes, you don’t want to miss it. It may well be a game changer.
