Keep It Going!

You never know how far you can go until you go for it. T.S. Eliot

We’re in the midst of a major societal shift. On every front, our lives are being dominated by a tsunami of disrupting forces of information overload, fake news, encroaching data, artificial intelligence and biotechnology advances; unimaginable even just a few years ago.

And as if  this weren’t enough, there is the pandemic (yes, it’s still with us), the climate change, the economy, the war in Ukraine and the shifting political winds.

The times are demanding, but in spite of the prevailing negative opinion of many, we will get through this period. It’s what we humans do.

Crazy times, for sure; but for the courageous, the inquisitive, the curious, the imaginative a new order beckons, promising exciting advances in every field.

I’m reminded of the words of Saul Bellow, who wrote, “if you think that historical forces are sending everybody straight to hell you can either go resignedly with the procession or hold out, and hold not from pride or other personal motives, but from admiration and love for human abilities and powers which, without exaggeration, the words ‘miracle’ and ‘sublimity’ can be applied.”

We see life not as it is, but as we allow ourselves to see it. If ever there was a time to take a fresh look at everything, it’s now.

Life is a journey. Take a deep breathe. Keep it going…

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.

I hope to see you again soon.

Courage Trumps Fear

courage-wins-the-day-drew-simmie-web

From time to time, we all come up against personal or professional challenges.

How we deal with them depends totally on our attitude.

“Attitude,” said Charles Swindoll, “is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people say or do. It’s more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.”

In these crazy, changing times, it’s your attitude together with your courage that will get you over the rough spots.

Courage always trumps fear.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.  As always, thank you for reading me.

I look forward to seeing you back here soon.

Hope

ukraine-flag

Imagine there’s no heaven

It’s easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only the sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today, I

Imagine there’s no countries

It isn’t hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace

You may say I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one

I hope some day you’ll us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or anger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world, you

You may say I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one

I hope someday you’ll join us

And the world will live as one.

                             John Lennon

Hmm…

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.  As always, thank you for reading me.

I look forward to seeing you back here soon.

Summertime In the Park

Keep your face always towards the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you. Walt Whitman.

bench-park-summer-drew-simmie

Parks in a large urban city are special places. They are an oasis of calm; a place of tranquility, a spot where you can connect with nature in the middle of the concrete canyons and ribbons of unending vehicles.

Parks attract people of all ages and from all walks of life but regardless of who they are, they all have one thing in common. They value quietude. Watch them… lovers slowly strolling, arm in arm, along the paths; elders sitting on benches, soaking up the life-giving warmth of the sun; young parents proudly pushing stollers. Then there are others, singlely or in pairs, heads buried in a book or in their digital devices. Everyone enveloped in quietude.

Occasionally someone glides by on a bike. Even the animals get into the act: dogs, free of their leashes, unsuccessfully chase squirrels. Birds flutter around, pecking for food in the grass.

Connecting with nature, in any of its forms, is important to your health and well being. It helps to release stress, sooth your spirits and sharpen your senses.

Plugging into nature affords you the opportunity to set aside your busyness, if even for only for a short while… to catch your breath and recharge your batteries.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay true to yourself.

Thank you for reading me. I hope to see you back here soon.
