Live A Fulfilling Life

Happiness is not ready made. It comes from your own actions. The Dalai Lama.

Being, in life, is everything. Being responsible for yourself, engaging both your head and your heart so you can put yourself out there and do things for people whom you value.

Never believe that a few caring people can’t make a difference. They can. Brave individuals, in their homes, places of work, laboratories and institutes of learning, all over the world, doing it everyday – without acclaim and fanfare.

There will be pitfalls and obstacles along your way, but none so fearsome that you can’t overcome them, particularly when you commit yourself to doing what it takes to live a beautiful, fulfilling life.

The Honest Choice

Aware/Creative/Collaborative/
Service-Driven/Different/Leaner/Open/Empathetic/Inclusive…

honesty-drew-simmie

These are just some of the words that describe the leading individuals and companies in today’s economy.

Whether you are leading yourself or your own business, here are five questions to consider:

  1. What real value are you adding?
  2. What major problems do you help your clients solve?
  3. What difference are you making?
  4. How much do you care?
  5. Are you doing things right or doing the right things?

Doing the right things isn’t alway easy. In fact, in many instances, it is usually the hardest, but in today’s world, where nonsense, hypocrisy and deceit appear to be the norm, it’s the only honest choice.

It Could Be A Wonderful World

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

wonderful-world-drew-simmieOne of my favourite radio programs is the popular CBC Sunday Edition. I have been a regular listener for years. Breakfast on Sunday just wouldn’t be the same without it. The variety and scope of the topics never disappoints.

So it was yesterday, when Michael Enright, the host of the show responded to a letter from Anne Blakeney, wife of the late premier of Saskatchewan. She asked if they could dig through the archives and play a recording of It Could Be A wonderful World, a song made popular by Pete Seeger, way back in the 50‘s and 60‘s.

There is at least one generation who has never heard of Pete Seeger. It was a long time ago. He and others of his time wrote and sang of love, caring for others, inclusiveness, respect and sharing.

Today, not so much. At a time of the 1%, of widening disparities in income and social unrest in many parts of the world, it is good to be reminded that we are, indeed, all the same, some just more fortunate than others.

Go back in time. Take a moment and listen

Just saying…

Congratulations Canada

It is not light that we need, but fire; it is not the gentle shower but the thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind and the earthquake. Frederick Douglass.

Leadership is not about what you do to your enemies or what you tell them. That’s easy.

Real leadership is what you do for your own people and what you tell them.

Riding The Tiger Of Your Dream

Belief is a truth held in the mind. Faith is a fire in the heart. Joseph Newton.

Whatever the dream or regardless of how long you have been working on it, it always comes down to doing the hard work and not succumbing to fear:

Fear of failure, of being ashamed, of looking foolish, of being left out, of being embarrassed, of running out of money, of being alone, of dying. Fear is a dream destroyer.

The life of a warrior is never easy. There may be times when you feel you need to take a break from yourself and maybe even stop for awhile. That’s OK, but what isn’t OK, what you must not do, is give up on the dream.

Always remember that just over the horizon, on the other side of fear, lies victory.
