Focus On What You Can Do

Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can. John Wooden.

With 2008 and the last great recession fast fading from view, many of the larger companies are experiencing record sales and profits in the global economy but at a local level many smaller and medium size businesses and individual entrepreneurs are still having a difficult time.

In the new economy, individually and collectively, the winners – always hopeful by nature, are those having the courage to change, to adapt to new ideas and views and look beyond the current for new possibilities.

That means moving out of comfort zones, being honest and throwing out what doesn’t work anymore – not dwelling on past successes but instead focusing on what you can do rather than on what you think you can’t.

Getting Through The Tough Times

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. Emerson.

We have all heard the old admonition: “When the going get tough, the tough get going.”

But it’s more than that. When times are particularly difficult and the odds seem insurmountable, it’s not just about being tough.

It’s about your personal resolve, how much you believe in yourself, how passionate you are and, above all, your courage.

Whom We Were Meant To Be

All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. Ralph Waldo Emerson.

EmersonThe only thing we can really know about the future is that it will different from today and it will arrive whether we want it to or not.

We are in constant motion. None of are who we were when we started out. Events and people change and change us, just as we change them.

Loving and losing, celebrating gains and suffering losses, we press ahead through many lives, like putting on and taking off an old coat as we walk through the years on our way to becoming whom we were meant to be.

Attitude is Everything

It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry the load. Lena Horne.

When your attitude is out of whack, so is your life. Here are some tips to help you get a handle on whatever the problem is and help you focus on a positive solution.

  1. Eliminate negative words in your vocabulary. Words like “can’t” and “don’t”.  Negative words suggest helplessness and distraction. Instead use positive words like “I can” and “I am” – positive words lift your spirit and help you dwell on the possibilities.
  2. Take control of what you think. If you think something is impossible, it is. If you think something is doable, it is. It is your choice. When you dwell on despair, your thinking keeps you there.
  3. Don’t waste your time worrying. It is a useless emotion that saps your energy and blocks creativity – both of which you need in spades.

Attitude is everything. It’s what will see you over the rough spots and point you towards to the results you are for which you searching.

Getting Your Future Right

The future depends on what we do today.
Mahatma Gandhi

Globalization and the IT revolution have changed everything.

Time and distance have collapsed. The consumers’ thirst for what’s new is insatiable. Markets are changing faster than ever. The challenges are enormous. The question is how best to compete.

As you ponder your future, searching for answers and the right direction, here are five questions to consider:

  1. How strategic is your thinking?
  2. How adept are you at changing?
  3. How right is your digital marketing strategy?
  4. How much do you believe in yourself?
  5. What is the one, most significant action you need to take to move your business forward?

The future is here, ready or not. Getting it right isn’t easy but hey, who said it was going to easy?
