Staying In The Game

The future depends on what you do today.
Mahatma Gandhi.

It has been a rough couple of years, challenging in so many ways.

The pandemic isn’t finished with us quite yet, but as we get beyond the worst of it, the conundrum facing many is whether to just give full throttle to their current activities or, perhaps, referencing their lockdown pledges, pause for a deep rethink about the arc of their lives.

Big thoughts, I know, but that’s what a pandemic does. As we all begin to adjust to the new realities, there isn’t a better time than now to refresh and, if necessary, repurpose.

Be real. Do the work. Wherever you go on from here, know that you have all you need to maximize your potential, step up your life and be the best version of yourself that you can be.

All with the aim of staying in the game.

Find Yourself

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Steve Jobs.

Life is short. Find your purpose and you’ll find yourself – loving each and every day.

Positive Self Talk

Promise yourself that you will talk health, happiness and prosperity as often as possible.
John Wooden.

Positive Self Talk

Success doesn’t magically land in your lap. There are a number of factors that determine your level of success. Among the many, top achievers know that positive self-talk has a huge bearing on their success.

Never underestimate the strong belief you have in yourself and the value of positive self-talk. Constantly remind yourself that underpinning all your work it is your unwavering belief system that will see you over the finishing line!

Put another way, if you don’t believe you can do it, you can’t. If you believe you can, you can.

Be A Good Listener

The most important thing in good communications is hearing what isn’t said. Peter Drucker.

There are few needs of the human heart that are greater than the need to be heard, to be understood and respected for whom we are; to have someone actually hear what we are saying.

Often, though, in our unending state of busyness, many engage in a conversation without actually hearing what the other person is saying.

Slow down.

Listening shows respect and regard for others. It is only when you actually slow down and the other person realizes that you are really listening to what they have to say – that good communication begins.

How You Spend Your Time

Now is not the time to think about what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is. Ernest Hemingway.

How many times have you caught yourself saying, “I can’t believe how fast time is going.”

Of all our possessions, aside from good health, of course, time is the most precious. When it’s gone, it’s gone. As far as I know, nobody  has ever reported back.

The demands on our time are unending. If ever there was an occasion to re-evaluate how we’re spending our days it is now.

I was reminded recently of these thoughts when I came across a wonderful poem, Slow Dance, written by David Weatherford.

When time allows … catch your breath, stop for a few minutes
and read it.

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask: How are you? Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

Ever told your child, we’ll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die?
Cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurray through your day,
it is like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life is not a race, do take it slower.
Hear the music before the song is over.
