Show Up For Work Everyday

Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it. H.D. Thoreau

A dream doesn’t become a reality through magic. It’s the result of every day hard work, perseverance, continuous learning and unfailing belief in yourself.

More than that, it’s about thriving on a challenge, putting your heart out there and not being afraid to fail.

Talent was the starting point, but the funny thing about success is this:

Once you’re up and running, you’ve got to keep on working that talent and show up for work everyday.

Now that you’re here! If you would like to step up your life you won’t want to miss my seminar, March 27. Read Step Into Life. I hope to see you there.

No Time For Green Bananas

You say I am a dreamer but I’m not the only one. John Lennon.

It’s hard these days to hold on to your dreams. At every turn negativity and pessimism rear their ugly heads. The world appears to be breaking into two groups. One is sure that we are all going to hell in a hand basket so don’t bother. The other says no, no no…..the future is bright if only we’re open to the new opportunities and changes that beckon.

It was always thus. The believers, the small, creative minority has always been responsible for improving humankind’s lot, but it’s never been easy.

No great work or extraordinary accomplishment in any field of endeavour has ever come without the hard work and courage. The clock is ticking.

In order to have, you must ‘do’ and in order to ‘do’ you must ‘be.’

If you’ve been struggling to make your dream real, take action. Get it out there.  You know what to do. There’s no time for green bananas.

Now that you’re here, if you have been struggling with your dream and could use some down-to-earth strategic thinking  you won’t want to miss my seminar, Tuesday, March. 27. Read Step Into Life.

Take Control Of Your Time

If you miss the present moment, you miss your appointment with life. Thich Nhat Hanh.

In our crazy, time-pressured world, the demands on our life at work and at home seem never-ending. Everybody wants a piece of us and our time but there is only so much of it to go around. Do you find that? I know I do.

Fact is, there are only 24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week. Only 168 hours! We are running faster and faster,  but faster and faster can catch up with you if you let it.

It can ruin relationships, cut down on efficiency in the work place and suck the joy out of life. All is not lost, though, not if you don’t want it to be.

Living in the present moment, practicing mindfulness is something you can master. It will take time, discipline and commitment, but for now, here are five things you can do to take control of your time:

  1. Ruthlessly review and cut back on your todo list. Ask yourself what’s important and what’s not. Take it from there.
  2. Learn to say ‘no.’ If someone asks for a piece of your time, check your agenda before committing. Arrange a mutually convenient time to get together. Mutually is the operative word.
  3. Stop being a slave to social media. It can be a terrible time waster and a real distraction.
  4. Increase your awareness of how you react and respond to others. Be attentive. Listen.
  5. Concentrate more on the present and not so much on the future. If you are doing the right things today, the future will take care of itself.

Heads up! If you find your schedule is pressing and you’d like to take control of your time, you won’t want to miss my seminar, Tuesday Feb. 27. Read Step Into Life. I know it’s short notice, but hey, what can I say? I hope to see you there.

Just do it, anyway.

Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear do not sit home and think about it. Get out and get busy. Dale Carnegie.

From time to time, all of us have experienced occasions when secretly we thought about doing something we haven’t done before, something we felt was the right thing to do, only at the last moment to back off, unsure, afraid to try.

There is nothing sure in life. There are no garantees but when you step back from something, you are hiding your true gifts and talents.

When you do that, you are doing yourself a disservice. Worse, you are selling yourself short, accepting less.

The only way to get over your fear of doing something is to do the thing you fear. The only real fear is to the failure to try.

Try. Be brave. Just do it, anyway.

Note: If all of this is resonating and your courage is a little thin, I encourage you to read about my next seminar. Read Step Into Life.

Nobody Promised You Easy.

It’s the little things that are vital. Little things make big things happen. John Wooden.

little-things-planning

These are demanding times. Change is in the air. The challenges are many but so are the opportunities for those willing to take risks and put themselves out there.

If you’re seriously thinking about making a change – and are clear in your mind about what you want to do, here are three questions to ask yourself. There are many more, of course, but this will get you started:

  1. How well have you planned? How are you going to accomplish this change? What actions do you need to take ? What are the timelines?
  2. Can you step outside your comfort zone? Stepping outside your comfort zone takes courage, discipline and more faith in yourself than you ever imagined you had.
  3. Are you prepared to sacrifice and do the hard work? For as long as it takes?

So here’s the thing. There are no set-in-stone rules. Following your dream and taking your love out into the cold reality and conventions of the marketplace will take time (longer your thought) and it won’t be easy but nobody promised you easy.
