Clarity Of Vision

It’s not what the vision is, it’s what the vision does. Peter Senge.

vision-drew-simmie

Vision is a mental picture of how you view the future, an idea that has not yet arrived.

Vision can come from two directions; either the left brain logical extension of what we currently know, and occasionally from the right brain, that brings new insight and awareness of what is possible, even when there is no evidence or proof to substantiate it.

Then, too, there is another space – the space ‘between” the left and right side – where logic and intuition, thoughts and feelings, past experience and the future potential all merge into brilliant insights, wonderful new inventions or solutions to long standing issues. We often call it a break through or an ‘a ha moment.’

A vision is something that comes from within, something that seems to be “driving us.” It  manifests itself as a desire to grow or improve. Embodying our hopes and ideals, it provides us with a sense of purpose. In moments of flashing insight, the vision brings us images and ideas of what is possible where none existed before. All that is required is for us to put the idea into action.

Sometimes vision comes in a momentary flash, but mostly it results from our normal thought patterns, little by little, step by step, a product of our learning more about ourselves as we make our way on our journey.

Whatever the source, what is so special about a vision is not the vision itself, but who we become on the way to making it happen, head and heart fully engaged; when we are working in that magical space, being truly authentic, doing work that matters and making an positive impact on those around us.

Forward With Attitude

Human beings by changing the attitudes of their minds can change the outer aspects of their lives. William James.

move-forward-idea-lab-drew-simmie

One of the most overused words in today’s society is “attitude.” Yet it remains one of the most critical elements to success in our personal and professional lives.

When you have a good attitude about yourself, you tend to age more slowly and certainly with more grace. Your attitude and thinking creates the life you lead, how you impact upon others at home and on the job you do.

Having a positive attitude is a personal choice, one that will take you far and make your life easier and more contented.

To build and nurture a positive attitude, here are just three powerful ways you can incorporate into your life today:

  1. Believe in you and be aware of your unique special talents.
  2. Believe that most people are inherently good.
  3. Don’t give away the power of your behaviour and personal beliefs.

Resolve to listen to your inner voice. It is your heart talking. You have all you need. Do what’s right. Choose to be you, the one who is self aware, who develops relationships that foster good work that matters and inspires people to go forward with attitude.

If this is resonating and you are in the Toronto area, I have curated an up-graded edition of The Idea Lab. The next date is Feb 18. It’s an entirely different kind of gathering, a personal growth experience for people of like minds who are courageous, impatient and hungry for more. They want to take their lives and businesses to a whole new level. To sign up and read more please click on The Idea Lab.

Be An Explorer

be-an-explorer-drew-simmie-

Open or closed. That’s one of the many choices we make each day as we meet new challenges and opportunities.

The open mind is relaxed, more receptive receptive, more democratic in nature. The closed mode is tighter, hierarchical and less forgiving.

To be open to the new requires a sense of personal security, being up for adventure and the courage to be wrong.

When you have an open mind, there will always be new possibilities and as yet uncrossed frontiers that lead inevitably to the future – but they can only be spotted if you are willing to expect the unexpected and willing to explore.

Do It

Do what you want to do. Those you love you don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.

In times of pressing change and short time schedules, there are always those that rise to the challenge and make a success out of whatever they are doing.

Intuitively they know what they have to do. Deaf to the doubters and the naysayers they know yesterday’s ideas are so ‘yesterday’ and the future is reliant on what they do today. They work with what they have on hand. They do what they can.

In today’s market place, you can’t wait around for the right conditions to present themselves. You have to get started now. And you must stay open.

When you are working with a open mind rather than a closed one, you know that one thing will lead to the next. The information you need may be available only after you have taken action. Wisdom often comes from experience, not from analysis.

There are no promises and it won’t be easy. The outcome may still be in doubt, but waiting around isn’t the answer. If you have been holding back, resolve today to stop listening to the naysayers and your own negative self talk.

If you want to make music, make music. If you want to write and make change happen, go do that. If you want to do something that matters, take responsibility for it and go out and do it.

The Amazing Dance Of Life

dancing-drew-simmie

In his famous, I Have A Dream speech, Martin Luther King eloquently reminded us that:

“We are faced with the fact, my friends, tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time.”

He went on to add that “life often leaves us standing bare, naked, and dejected with a lost opportunity. The tide in the affairs of men does not remain at flood – it ebbs. We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is adamant to every plea and rushes on. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words, “Too late.”

Do you ever have moments when you feel time is not on your side? I know I do, but we are not alone. We all face barriers and challenges of one kind or another and have setbacks occasionally. That’s how life goes. It’s the all-too-familiar dance – one step forward, two steps back.

In this amazing dance of life, time waits for no one. .

The trick is make the best use of the time we have been given , to keep on dancing – with the fierce urgency of now.

At the end of the day, it is up to you . It is never too late, not if you don’t want it to be.
