A Reason. A Season. A Lifetime.

Serendipity – a noun meaning a faculty or an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.

Have you ever noticed how people come into your life just when you need them? Could that have been an accident, you wonder?

It took me a long time to accept the notion that people do, indeed, seem to show up in your life – usually to help and support you or to teach you a lesson you needed to learn.

A few years ago I stumbled upon a poem on the Internet. If you are familiar with it there is no need to go further, but if you are not and think there may be some “magic” going on in your life, you may want to read on.

                  A Reason. A Season. A Lifetime

When someone is in your life for a reason, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They are there to meet a need. Then without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, they will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that the need has been met.

When a person comes into your life for a season, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.

Lifetime relationships teach you life lessons. Those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. You must accept the lesson, love the person anyway, and put what you have learned to use in all relationships and areas in your life.

What do you think? Is there such a thing as a coincidence? Is serendipity simply a lot of psycho babble? Like so many things in life, it is for you to decide.

Distractionitis

In our social media driven, 24/7 world, just keeping up is a challenge.

There never seems to be pause. We’re tweeting, texting, emailing… chattering away… like birds on a wire. Looking for what’s next and newest.

Distractionitis is spreading. If you think you have caught it, don’t worry. There is a cure. It is called focus.

Get focused again. Stay focused.

Whatever your business or your objective, at the start of everyday, ask yourself this one, all important question: Is what I’m doing right now moving me towards or away from the outcome I am looking for?

If it isn’t, stop it. And refocus on what will.

Audacity

Audacity – a noun meaning boldness, courage or chutzpah.

Try as we might, there is no holding back the relentless advance of change. As technology and innovation continue unabated, many companies and even entire industries are slowly losing traction – unable to adapt or change to accommodate the new models and ways of doing things.

That applies to individuals, too. There is no escaping. As scary as it is, if you want to grow, you must breakout of your comfort zone and embrace the unknown.

Sometimes you have to have the audacity to do something you have never done before.

Willing To Explore

We operate in two contrasting modes – open or closed.

The open mode is relaxed, more receptive receptive, more democratic in nature. The closed mode is tighter, hierarchical and less forgiving.

To be open to the new requires a sense of personal security, being up for adventure and the courage to be wrong.

When you have an open mind, there will always be new possibilities and as yet uncrossed frontiers that lead inevitably to the future – but they can only be spotted if you are willing to expect the unexpected and willing to explore.

Be The person You Want To Become

Before you can do something, first you must be something. Wolfgang von Goethe.

As a rule, people do not attract that which they want but rather that which they are. So it is, that when you stop concentrating on what you want to get and instead concentrate on you, only then will you get what you want.

To get what you want, you change who you are and you change who you are by changing the way you think and act. You simply decide to act as if you already are the person you want to become.
