Time Is Precious

Now is not the time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is. Ernest Hemingway.

Life has a way of slipping away so quickly. Never has that axiom rung so true.

Caught up as we in the current COVID – 19 maelstrom, there is hardly time to think, let alone turn our attention to POETRY. In truly dire times, though, the words in a well-considered poem can help you things in perspective.

I was reminded recently of the power of poetry when I came across a wonderful poem written by David Weatherford.

When time allows…catch your breath, STEP BACK for a few minutes and read it.  You’ll get it…

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask: How are you? Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

Ever told your child, we’ll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die?
Cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurray through your day,
it is like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life is not a race, do take it slower.
Hear the music before the song is over.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.

I hope to see you back here soon.

Stay Focused On Your Dream.

Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart. Roy T. Bennett.

These are difficult, challenging times. That’s not a cliche. On almost every level, our lives have been completely turned upside down. COVID-19 has been with us for months and will be for many more to come. How many, we don’t really know, but what we do know is that, if ever there was a time for positive thinking, it is NOW.

We have to stay upbeat, working with what we have, and keep moving forward, each day doing our best to find practical, doable solutions that will lead us to success. Here are three success techniques you can use. You already know them. It is just that sometimes we all need to be reminded…

  1. Sometimes in life, totally unexpectedly, bad things happen. Events we can’t control. Like the COVID. How we respond to it makes all the difference. Don’t make things worse by focusing on what you can’t control and focus instead on what you can to make it better.
  2. Don’t let fear or worry overtake your life. Don’t let yourself be consumed by the constant drip, drip, of bad news. Doing that weakens your resolve. Shift, instead, to something for which you can be grateful and keep your eye only on what you can do.
  3. Remember, every problem is temporary. Obviously, this one is like no other we have seen in our lives, but it, too, shall pass. Keep you eyes laser-focused on your future goals – and, most importantly, on your dream. Never sell yourself short.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.

I hope to see you here again soon.

Distractionitis Alert

The mind is everything. What you think you become. Buddha.

distractionitis-alert-drew-simmie

In our increasingly distracted, social-media driven, 24/7 world, just keeping up with it all can be a challenge.

There is hardly a pause. Everyday we’re tweeting, texting, chattering away…. like birds on a wire.

I have made up a word for this condition. And called it ‘distractionitis!’

It’s spreading like wild fire. But not to worry. If you think you have been inflicted, there is a cure .

It is called FOCUS.

Whatever your business or life objective, every morning, pause for a moment and ask yourself this one, all important question: “Is what I’m doing with my time today moving me away from or towards the outcome I am looking for?”

If it is, keep going. If if isn’t, stop it. And reFOCUS on what will.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.

I hope to see you back here again soon.

What’s Next? How Tall Are You?

How often I found where I should be going only by setting out for someplace else. Buckmaster Fuller.

new-road-drew-simmie

These are changing times. Society is undergoing a huge transformation. That’s what a pandemic does. It focuses the mind and the heart and forces honest, strategic thinking. A RESET is always challenging.

The willingness to start down a new road is always scary. Getting beyond outdated, limiting beliefs and behaviours in order to fashion a new version of ourselves is always stressful. But it is what it is.

Is this resonating? Could it be your time to think about taking another road?

Starting down a new road isn’t easy. It’s all about sewing seeds of new expectations for yourself and others, too. It’s about putting down conventional techniques, outdated dictates of society and rules of the market place. It will take a ton of courage thoughtful planning, hard work and much sacrifice. So what else is new?

That’s a tall order, I know. It’s not for everybody, but you’re not everybody. In the words of T.S. Eliot, “If you aren’t in over your head, how tall do you know you are?”

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.

I hope to see you here again soon.

Embrace The New

Courage is the power to let go of the familiar. Raymond Linquist.

middle-space-drew-simmie

The pandemic has brought with it massive change on so many levels, no more so than in the marketplace, forcefully driven by technology and social media.

It demands that you change your way of thinking – reliant not solely on your linear, left brain side nor with an over emphasis on the creative, right brain side, but in using both, unafraid to listen to your intuition, then taking that information and filtering it through your rational mind to a new space, between the two spheres. The middle space.

This is where you are at your best – following your hunches and then using your smarts and and experience to bring your work to successful fruition. It is there where the practical and meaningful solutions for today’s upended world reside.

It isn’t easy and it’s always a juggling act, but here are three tips to get you there:

  1. Have the courage to think outside of the proverbial box. That’s where the status quo isn’t.
  2. Build on a bigger future, even though you can’t always see it.
  3. Stick to your convictions – and do your best work.

When you do, wonderful things can happen. Life sparkles when you are open to new possibilities – working in the middle space,  willing to let go of what isn’t working anymore and embrace the new.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay connected.

I hope to see you here again soon.
